By Walker Evans
These are my three favorite pictures taken by Walker Evans because they each have little details to them that make them unique.
The first picture is my favorite because this picture was taken without the subject knowing the picture was being taken. Evans would hide a camera in his jacket and take pictures of the unsuspecting people. I like this picture so much because her guard is down and her true emotions are showing on her face because her guard is down.
I like the second photo so much because to me, it shows the difference between the children in the 1900's compared to now. In the picture the girl doesn't have much, but today even most poor people buy iphones and technology. Children and people these days are very materialistic and seeing this picture it reminds me that it wasn't always like that.
I like the third picture because the picture was done during the Great Depression. This woman lived in Alabama and didn't have a lot of money but she is still smiling in the photo. This picture shows me that even without a lot of money or items, people can still find happiness.
We have poor in this country that do not have IPhones... they are just invisible because no one is taking the time to document it. But as a whole, we are more inclined toward the materialistic and self-indulgent. I think the tragedy in this country is that the poor has no face and no voice so it is easy for us to think that they do not exist. Maybe you can change that?
